“Become a volunteer!” triathlon Pontevedra calling anyone who wants to help in the World Championships!

The campaign has been launched to persuade the public under the slogan "lend them your hands"

The sports volunteer campaign for the Grand Final of the Triathlon World Series has kicked off with the aim of persuading as many people as possible by calling to the different lines of work the organisation needs to tackle the important logistical missions required by the race.

“It will be the people of Pontevedra who are closest to the athletes, so for us the importance of the volunteers is maximum,” said Miguel Fernández Lores, mayor of the city who will host the most important event of world triathlon in September. He also commented that “they will be training to be ready for 2025, the year a new Multisport will be held here too, similar to what already took place in 2019 and has brought more than 4,000 athletes to the city from around the world.

The mayor of Pontevedra presented the communication campaign, which will try to reach the public through the usual channels of the city council, social media and media under the slogan “Lend them your hands, become a volunteer”.

Head of the Volunteer Office of Pontevedra, Miguel Balea, said the event’s organisation team has requested a total of 544 collaboration positions, a number that does not have to match the number of volunteers, as each person can attend several positions in different shifts.

Balea thanked the multiple entities collaborating with the Office. He specifically cited Brilat, the Naval School and the Lama Prison and also highlighted many entities even outside the Pontevedra municipality that provide volunteers. He also noted and thanked the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth for their continuous collaboration and hard work assisting athletes.

During the organization of the event, it is expected that the just over 500 positions over the three days that the World Champs will last will be filled by people who like some aspect of the various areas of work planned for volunteers: registration and accreditations, supporting the race directors, protocol and ceremonies, communication and press, in addition to the logistics.

Each person will be asked to cover a minimum of two shifts and the Volunteer Office will assign place, day and time, and the person coordinating each action. The people involved are guaranteed supplies, uniform and all equipment or material needed related to their mission, in addition to insurance and certificates of participation.

Those interested, whatever their age or level of education, may also participate in exclusive events and parties for the volunteer group. On previous occasions, people who participated have expressed their high satisfaction at having taken part in the event and many of them will return this year.
