Dapena: “A Grand Final here is exciting”

The Mayor and the triathleted share a friendly chat to comment on various topics related to the championship

“It’s exciting to see how little by little the whole championship facility is growing in the city … it gives you goosebumps to see that we’re going to celebrate a grand final here.” These are the words of Pablo Dapena, the Pontevedra triathlete who appeared with the mayor, Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores, at a press conference this Tuesday, September 19.

This happened at the beginning of the Grand Final of the Triathlon World Series, that the city is about to celebrate throughout this week, setting itself up as a historical milestone for Boa Vila and its neighbourhood.

“Without a doubt, Pablo Dapena is one of the people also responsible for Pontevedra holding this sports competition”, said the mayor. “He came from competing in Belgium and we wanted to share the start with him. Pontevedra is the capital of the world of triathlon thanks to the fact that we have local personalities who make citizens turn up for the competitions we host.’

The mayor recalled that the urban model of Pontevedra facilitates the development of these international races, while it has suitable spaces for triathlon. “No one is unaware of the economic return that the triathlon has brought to this city over the last few years. We are laying the foundations for the future, we are sowing the seed that makes Pontevedra known all over the world. Pontevedra will continue to hold events, and we already have the Multisport here in 2025”.

Regarding the international competition, the triathlete explained that “this is the best that can be seen in triathlon”. “And incredible. You don’t see something like this every day. For me, as a professional triathlete, it’s something tremendous,” he said.
