The celebration of the Grand Final of the Triathlon World Series will not only feature a very high-level sports program throughout the races of the age groups, under-23 and elite; but it will also show a parallel program of leisure and culture that visitors and the neighborhood will enjoy.
The mayor, Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores, revealed this Tuesday morning, September 12, the activities that will take place in the city during the celebration of the various sports events that will transform Pontevedra into the world capital of triathlon.
Thus, a large stage will be installed in the Praza do Concello area, in front of the monument to the heroes of Ponte Sampaio, just as it was in the 2019 Multisport. Various festive activities will be held in this space, in addition to the awarding of medals for the age groups.
It will be on this same stage where the main opening of the event will take place, on Thursday 21 September, at 7.30 pm with the performance of Pablo Méndez Performance and his show Atempo; then continue with the folkloric group Celme. Previously, at 7 p.m., the inaugural parade will begin where Os de Algures will accompany the processions of the participating countries from Praza da Ferraría to Praza de Concello
In addition, Xabier Díaz and the Adufeiras de Salitre will perform on Friday along with other folk groups from the city; on Saturday, Pontevedra will be able to see De Vacas live and, finally, on Sunday, you will be able to enjoy the music of Carlos Núñez, the legendary Galician piper.
On the other hand, it should be noted that a large marquee will be installed in Montero Ríos that will host an Expo where the various sponsors, information points and points of sale for sports brands and specialized in triathlon will be represented.
There are also a series of guided tours in English around the city, in addition to the usual ones in Spanish, on the 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 25th of September. You will need to register in advance, between 10.00 am and 4.30 pm – except for the 23rd and 25th, when the session will only be held in the morning. They will have a price of 7 euros (5 with a reduced rate).
The official dinner of the event will be held on Wednesday, September 20, through the organizing committee, for all authorities and international federations. It will be at the Liceo Casino in the historic center, and 300 people are expected to participate. At this official dinner, triathlete Iván Raña will also be inducted into the World Triathlon Hall of Fame.
As indicated by the mayor, this very Sunday the first route along the Camino de Santiago from Pontevedra will leave from the Peregrina church, an activity that will continue on Monday and Tuesday. “The executive of the World Triathlon will participate”, explained the mayor.
Lores defined this program as “a varied and different program to what we have seen in other events of this class around the world”, which will promote citizen participation and which gives it “a special color and makes Pontevedra a benchmark in the organization of these sports events”.
