WTCF PONTEVEDRA 2023 Top Triathlon Here. Top Triathlon City.

“I’ve never seen a race with so many people cheering”

Crowded stages for a legendary World Champs competition

Thousands of people. A difficult number to calculate, but in any case the most crowded elite races that have been held in the city and at the height of the most relevant grand finals. Pontevedra and triathlon reaffirm their love story with this crazy world championship.

All parts of the circuit: the banks of the river and in the historic center and even in some parts of Avenida de Compostela, especially in the parts closest to the city center, showed a climate of absolute human warmth, admiring and applauding the athletes in each of the sections both on Saturday with the men’s race and on Sunday with the women’s.

The banks of the Lérez were the stands of a stadium to watch the swimming on its two banks, as well as on the Ponte dos Tirantes and on the pedestrian walkway of the island, crowded with people enjoying the almost 30 degrees temperature, where they could watch the start and return to the water, one of the most interesting moments of this phase.

The transition between the water and the bike was witnessed by hundreds of people on Buenos Aires Avenue, the center of this first part of the race. Tirantes bridge was also full of people. The area of the Sports Pavilion and Ponte do Burgo had some people too, but closer to the Currents Bridge and returning along Avenida de Bos Aires there were many. The parts of the circuit, the closer it got to the market and Tirantes Bridge, the more concentration of people it presented, an audience that was always enthusiastic and devoted.

The interior of the CGTD stadium, where the bike also passed, presented its two stands full of animation, an audience which enjoyed the race both live and from the screens installed on the track and were able to enjoy the second transition live.

The Historic Center was a huge show of support for runners. The climb to the Ferraría and the square itself, Peregrina, Michelena, Curros, Don Gonzalo, Méndez Núñez, Serra, and further on Buenos Aires and the surroundings of the stadium was full of applause.

The response of the public to the world triathlon party was resounding, even without a local athlete in the winning. The medals in the 2019 Multisport race with Javi Gómez Noya and Pablo Dapena was still in the eyes of the organizers. The support of this event was the same or even better, which means the 2025 Multisport will also be a hit because the city is fully identified with this type of spectacle.

The reactions of the protagonists collected by the local press leave no room for doubt. Gómez Noya declared that from what the athletes told him, they had never seen such stunning support from the public. The headline of Faro de Vigo also sums up the moment well: “The people of Pontevedra, the great champions of the grand final”.
