The shared car, another option to get to the pedestrian city

The city is considered an international benchmark for natural mobility

In the opinion of many of the participants in previous competitions, one of the most valued points of this triathlon venue is the ease of movement and the proximity of the services and points of interest of the championship, which allow natural mobility, on foot or by bike.

Due to the pedestrianised nature of the city, an agreement to encourage the use of car sharing with Blablacar company for longer distance travel has been made. Sustainability of the championship and maximum respect for the environment are part of the DNA of Pontevedra, a city which has been awarded worldwide for its commitment to a resilient and humanised public space.

Pontevedra’s commitment to sustainable mobility has earned awards such as the UN Habitat, awarded in Dubai; the EU Intermodality award for its involvement in pedestrian mobility; the Center for Active Design award in New York and the Urban Road Safety award, one of the sustainable mobility awards from the European Commission, in addition to others in Hong Kong, Shenzen, Portugal, Córdoba, Seoul or Madrid.

Better on foot

Consequently, with this pedestrian model, we recommend the use of bikes or travelling on foot during the championship, avoiding the use of motorised vehicles as much as possible, reducing the use of cars to only essential trips.

In the Points of Interest Plan, some parking spaces are specified in the vicinity of the sports areas. These are courtesy car parks for people or organisations who, for logistical or physical reasons, find it necessary to travel by car, especially designed for people with mobility problems. To access these places, it is necessary to have authorisation from the organisation.

There are also specific spaces for motorhomes – these can be accessed without authorisation, depending on the available space.

Car sharing

The car-sharing service that the organisation offers to people participating in the event is an app accessed via its website in collaboration with BlaBlaCar, to facilitate shared transport for your journeys, before, during and after the competition days.

The international, journey-sharing platform currently allows more than 100 million people to share journeys in the 22 countries in which it is present, connecting those looking for shared travel, increasing the possibility that these are more attainable, sociable, comfortable and respectful to the environment. It is estimated that this mobility network, which facilitates around 120 million connections per year, manages to reduce emissions of more than one and a half million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
