A great spectacular and emotional moment. This was the opening ceremony of the Triathlon World Championship Grand Final, which kicked off today in Pontevedra with a symbolic neoclassical performance by local artist Pablo Méndez.
Hundreds of athletes gathered around 6 in the afternoon in the central Plaza de Ferraría to parade on Michelena and to receive all the warmth of the public, who made a long corridor of tribute to them, applauding non-stop to all the performances.
At the head, the group of pipers Os de Algures filled the parade with traditional sounds, accompanied by the mascot Ravachol and a large group of volunteers representing the hundreds who will participate in these days of international races. The white t-shirts of the volunteers stood out among the colorful textiles of the triathletes who followed their respective flags.
Representations as large as Canada, the United States, Mexico, Germany, Colombia, France and of course Spain walked along Michelena behind the Galician flag, the first to arrive at the Town Hall square where they were welcomed around the platform on which the members of Pablo Méndez’s company were going to perform the main show of the night.
A composition in three acts with neoclassical references such as the airship or people turned into objects of outdated musical technology, full of addition. Aerial and terrestrial dances with hoops, fabrics and numbers hanging from a huge crane, that supported a globe of medieval appearance, a choreography suspended in the air composed of 8 people dancing on old bicycles and other structures.
After the visual number presided over by a huge “The day has arrived”, the speeches of the authorities giving the welcome to Pontevedra and encouraging them to celebrate an event full of sportsmanship and joy, closed the act. The Grand Final of the Triathlon Pontevedra 2023 World Series is inaugurated.
